Both my kids are grown, and I’ve still got a lot of love left to give. I wanted to do something that made a difference. I had done my career for 30 years and decided I wanted to do something else and thought I’d like to help people.

I used to work in building, landscaping, construction and earth moving. I think I was able to use my life skills from everyday life and bring them into support work, just doing everyday things that we take for granted.

It’s like I’ve gained a second family, it really is. It’s been the most amazing journey. All the guys we support have enriched my life. It makes me feel appreciative of everything we’ve got and the stuff I can share with them. It’s just been awesome, really awesome. I love it!

I’d recommend it to anyone, it was supportive from the beginning and I just learned so much stuff, and I’m still learning stuff every day, we’re always learning. The first few days were a lot different; it was full on!

The relationships and rapport I’ve built with the guys and with my fellow coworkers is amazing. I love it. I could not picture myself doing anything else or going to work anywhere else. After a long time, I’ve kind of found my niche. I love doing this every day.

I would tell anyone thinking about changing this into a career to just take the leap, go ahead and do it, you won’t regret it. You’ll form relationships that you’ll have forever. The training we receive gives me more confidence to move forward and give better support.

It’s been one of the best decisions of my life, other than my family. The ethos of what the company stands for, it doesn’t get much better than that. It’s a privilege to be let into someone’s life like that and to let you in to that level, how lucky can you be? It’s a privilege, an honour to do what we do. That’s what I believe.
