“This is my first job as a Support Worker. I was working in hospital admin for the last eight years and recently moved to South Australia. I wanted a big change, a job where I wasn’t trapped in four walls every day with a computer, and I wanted a job where I could learn new skills and meet new people. I put my care for others to work, and Support Worker just seemed like a perfect fit. And it’s been perfect, I’ve loved it. I don’t know why I didn’t do it earlier.

I love the people here. I learn so much from all the staff. Every shift, there’s something to learn while I’m studying. It helps working alongside people from all different skill levels, the knowledge pooled with everybody makes it a really great environment to learn.

I enrolled online to do my certificate because I’m a mum and need to work, so I thought studying online would be easier to work at the same time, and that’s exactly what I’m doing. Pretty much six weeks after I signed up, I applied and started working instantly, which was good. At the start, first shifts would have shadow shifts, so you work alongside experienced support workers. There’s plenty of help to get going with the clients.

The training has provided more confidence in working with the clients. There’s a lot of information from experienced trainers, and they also tailor it to the clients as well, which is really good, something you don’t get from online study.”
