“I was struggling at home with one housemate, and I was looking to living on my own. Before I had my stroke, I used to be independent, and I really wanted to return to that. I’m not the easiest person to live with, and I prefer my own company. Basically, I wasn’t happy with the situation any longer.

My support workers assisted me with emotional support, and to get into this place… they really, really helped me get mentally prepared and encouraged me. All my support workers have been amazing in assisting me over the years. I’ve really got a really close spectrum of support workers that I really get on with. They’re always there, I can always ring them if I need something, they’re happy to help out, and they’re really good company.

“I’m really happy here… the dream has finally come true!”

I let the Support Workers know what I want do, and how I want do it, basically I’m in charge… my house, my rules! I like the fact that I can now decorate how I want in my new house with pictures, photos, ornaments – I love my ornaments. I can’t wait to get the pictures up on the wall, eventually. I can’t wait to get my second budgie too, his name’s going to be Prince. I haven’t felt like it’s my place that I can totally decorate until now.

I’m really happy here; it’s been such a long time coming, but now that I’ve got here, I’m really loving it. …the dream has finally come true!”
